3. How to Code a Game
This article explains how to access the the game analysis portal and begin coding a game.
This article also assumes that a match has been created in Marker and the video/s have already been uploaded.
Navigating to the Analysis Window
Step 1: Matches tab
Select the 'Matches' tab and then the game you with wish to analyse.
Note: If no games are coming up, see how to create matches

Step 2: Analysis tab
Select the 'Analysis' tab on the right hand side.

Creating a Period/Quarter
Note: this is optional
You can create a period by scrolling down to below the video and selecting '+ Period (P)' on the right hand side. From there, a new period can be created at each point in the video as required.
This has two benefits. First, it allows you to quickly jump between the different periods. Second, it provides another level of depth to your coded stats so that you know in what periods of the game certain events are happening.
Coding Location
Note: this is optional
You can track the location of the ball in order to document which statistics are happening in what areas of the field. While in the anlaysis window, press 'L' to get a list of all of the different locations set on the field.
An example of a footy match's location can be seen below:

How it Works
The location that is continously being recorded is displayed in the top right hand corner of the video. It is automatically set to 'none.' The location can be toggled using hotkeys that are associated with the numbers on your keyboard 1-9. Therefore, when the ball moves to different regions on the field, you can record its location by pressing the associated hotkey number to toggle that location.
For further explanation, please see the video above.
Note: Location settings can be adjusted by following this article.
Important Coding a Principals
IMPORTANT: A fundamental principal of the shorthand coding technique is that each statistic is assigned to either a Player, your Team, the Opposition, or a general Match comment by placing at the correct identifier before every instance of the stat.
Identifiers at the start of the Input:
- Player: Input a jersey number
- Team: Input 'T' for Team
- Opposition: Input 'O' for Opposition
- General Match Stat: Input 'M' for Match
Example for a player stat: '11K' = Player 11 Kicked the ball
Note: Coaches Comments behave a little differently.

Coding a Player Statistic
Any player stat input will begin with their jersey number.
Begin playing the video. At the desired time, hit the 'spacebar' on your keyboard to trigger the event marking window. This will pause the game and display a window. Within this window, input the jersey number and the designated shorthand notation for the desired statistic. Hit the 'enter' key on your keyboard to save. Once the stat is saved, hit the 'spacebar' again to continue playing the video.

When saving an event, ensure you hit 'enter' first and not 'spacebar'. Hitting 'spacebar' first will not record your stat but continue playing the video.
If you wish to have stats assigned to certain players, you must add players to the teamsheet for the match. This allows the jersey number to be matched to the assigned player. See more here for how this can be done before or after the match.

Creating a Team/Coach Comment
At the desired time, hit spacebar on your keyboard to trigger the event marking window. This will pause the video and allow you to input the shorthand 'TC' (or whatever shorthand you notation you have customised it to) and then press 'enter' on your keyboard. This will open a chatbox that allows you to type in a message that you can pair with the moment in the video.
A coaches comment example would be: 'Breakdown in defence due to lack of pressure on the ball handler.'
Coding a Team Statistic
This is the same as a 'Coding a Player Statistic' except you input 'T' first instead of the jersey number at the start of stat notation.

Coding an Opposition Statistic
This is the same workflow as 'Coding a Player Statistic' however you input an 'O' for opposition at the start of the stat notation instead of the jersey number.
Reviewing the Coded Game
Marked stats and comments can be seen in the timeline on the right. You can filter stats by using the search function at the top of the timeline.
If you cannot see the timeline, scroll to the top and click the 3 horizontal lines in the top right (see image below).
Additionally, a list of all the stats displays below the video and you can click on the different points to see the stats.
